Serving Lexington and communities across Central Kentucky
M&M Gutter Services installs gutter guards to reduce the frequency of gutter cleaning — not eliminate it. Guards block leaves, twigs, pine needles, and other debris from entering your gutters, keeping water flowing through downspouts and cutting ladder time by about 75%.

How it works
Gutter guards sit across the top of your gutters, creating a barrier that lets rainwater flow through while blocking leaves, twigs, pine needles, and other debris.
When rain hits your roof, the water runs down and passes through or over the guard material — the specific mechanism depends on the type — then continues through your gutters and downspouts as normal. The debris that would otherwise clog your system stays on top of the guard or gets deflected off the roof edge.
The core principle is simple: water is smaller and more fluid than the debris you're trying to keep out. Each design solves the same problem with a different filter.
What we install
We install four main types of gutter guards, each with different strengths depending on your home's debris load and roof configuration.
Stainless steel mesh fine enough to block leaves, pine needles, and tiny windblown seeds while letting water flow through. The mesh sits on an aluminum frame that either slides under your shingles or mounts across the gutter edge, giving you flexibility based on your roofline. Micro-mesh handles the full range of Central Kentucky debris—oak leaves, maple seeds, pine needles—better than any other type.
Lightweight plastic or aluminum mesh that blocks large debris like leaves and twigs. Plastic screens cut easily with standard scissors for a custom fit, and most install without fasteners—you just place them in the gutter and press down. They won't rust or corrode, and they handle temperature swings without cracking.
Cylindrical bristle inserts that sit in the gutter trough. The flexible stainless steel wire core bends around corners, and the ultraviolet-resistant polypropylene bristles—about 4.5 inches across—let water flow freely while catching leaves, sticks, and other large debris. They fit standard 5-inch gutters and work with both fascia-mounted and shingle-mounted brackets.
Less common in our installs but available. Reverse-curve guards direct water over a curved surface into the gutter while pushing debris off the edge. Foam inserts fill the gutter channel, letting water soak through while blocking debris on top. Both types have specific use cases.
Guards reduce maintenance. They do not make it disappear. We set expectations before we set a single bracket.
Brush and screen guards may still need occasional clearing, and micro-mesh requires removing surface debris.
Local conditions
Central Kentucky's tree canopy creates year-round gutter challenges. Oak and maple trees dominate the region, dropping leaves in fall, seed pods in spring, and fine debris through summer. Pine needles add to the load where evergreens are present, and the spring seed drop—those helicopter-shaped samaras—clogs gutters with material small enough to slip through many standard screens.
Freeze-thaw cycles compound the issue. When unguarded gutters clog with decomposing leaves and debris, trapped water freezes during winter cold snaps. That ice expands, damaging gutter seams and creating ice dams that force meltwater under shingles.
A single freeze-thaw event can turn a minor clog into a costly repair, making gutter guards a practical defense against Central Kentucky's seasonal swings.
The honest math
Gutter guards reduce maintenance frequency, but they do not eliminate it entirely. Here is what changes and what does not.
No guard makes gutters maintenance-free. Brush types can clog with large debris and need regular clearing, and even micro-mesh accumulates material on top that eventually needs removal. We offer free estimates so you can compare what regular cleaning costs versus the one-time guard installation — call (859) 207-7442 to discuss which option makes sense for your home's specific situation.
Our process
Three stages, every job, from the first look at your roofline to the water test that proves it works.
We begin with a thorough inspection of your existing gutters and roofline to determine which guard type is appropriate for your home's specific mounting setup. Before installing any guards, we clean your gutters completely — debris trapped under a new guard defeats the entire purpose of the installation.
Once gutters are clear, we cut each section to fit your system precisely, working around downspouts and corners. Brush and screen guards work with both fascia-mounted and shingle-mounted brackets. We secure the guards according to the manufacturer's specifications, checking that each section sits flush and stable.
After installation, we run a water test across the full system to confirm proper flow through every downspout. This catches any alignment issues immediately rather than waiting for the first rain, so you are not discovering a problem during the next storm.

No. Gutter guards reduce maintenance, but they do not make gutters maintenance-free. Micro-mesh and screen types block most debris, but leaves and seed pods can accumulate on top of the guard and need to be removed. Brush-style guards can be prone to clogging with larger debris and require regular clearing. Guards cut ladder time significantly, but expect to check them once or twice a year rather than twice a season.
Yes. Gutter guards are available in standard 5-inch and 6-inch widths to fit common gutter sizes, so they adapt to most residential systems. Screen and brush types install without removing your current setup. Micro-mesh guards offer flexible installation options including sliding under shingles or mounting directly across the gutter edge, making them compatible with both fascia-mounted and shingle-mounted brackets.
Micro-mesh guards do. Stainless steel micro-mesh gutter guards block fine debris including leaves, pine needles, and tiny windblown seeds, keeping gutters clear and water flowing. Screen-style guards may allow smaller needles through, and brush guards trap them but require clearing over time.
Material determines durability. Stainless steel guards are the most durable, resisting rust and corrosion over many years of exposure. Plastic materials won't rust or corrode either and are fairly resistant to extreme temperature changes, but they are less sturdy under physical stress. Brush-style polypropylene bristles are ultraviolet-resistant, but the guard itself may need replacement sooner than metal options.
